Duncan® Distributor Update - Special Edition

March 8, 2010.  Received @ 2:55 PM

New Low Price on Two Popular Duncan® Ceramic Arts Products!

One of the guiding principles at iLoveToCreate™ is to Embrace Constant Change Improvement and Innovation! In the spirit of this principle, our entire team has worked hard to drive improvements and innovations within our manufacturing and sourcing processes. As a result we have experienced cost savings and we would like to share these savings with you!

In these tough economic times we know that consumers are forced to make decisions on where they spend their money. The cost per project is an important factor as consumers make decisions that affect their buying habits. In an effort to drive down the cost of participation in the Ceramic Arts we are excited to announce a price reduction on two very popular and well known product families within the Duncan® Ceramic Arts brand!

We are very excited to announce a significant price reduction on the entire Duncan® Oh Four Bisque product line. All designs have been reduced in price effective immediately.

Dogwood Ceramic Supply Comment:

The entire product was adjusted in price.  The adjustments range from 1 to 62% with an average price reduction across the entire product line of 39%.
Dogwood Ceramic Supply is in the process of updating our website and will have the Duncan® Oh Four™ prices updated as soon as humanly possible.

While our quest for improvement in processes has led to a cost reduction within the Duncan® Oh Four Bisque line, it has also driven us to make quality improvements to our clay formulation, ware preparation and packaging. We have also improved our Quality Control processes and implemented an industry leading QC Team with stringent testing procedures. The bottom line is we will now be shipping better bisque at lower prices.

New "No Shivering" Policy

We are so confident in our bisque production improvements that we will guarantee no shivering will occur on your customers' pieces, irrespective of the brand of glaze being used, or your money back. Duncan® Oh Four Bisque is the only line of bisque in the industry with a "No Shivering" policy.

*Subject to iLoveToCreate laboratory analysis and validation.
*All refunds will be processed at your studio net price with proper documentation

Dogwood Ceramic Supply Comment:

The "No Shivering" policy even applies to the crappy brands of glaze that Dogwood Ceramic Supply does not sell.

We are excited to announce a new everyday low price on Concepts®.
(8 oz. bottles only!)

Former MSRP $8.85
NOW $7.95!

Concepts® facts:

Dogwood Ceramic Supply Announcement

It has been over 8 years since Dogwood Ceramic Supply moved into our new showroom and in that period we have acquired a bit of excess inventory and need to make room for new products. In addition, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Gustav and Ike in 2008, have caused significant shifts in the needs of our local customers. Therefore....

Duncan Overglazes Have a New Look!

The labels on OG 801 Bright Gold, OG 802 White Gold, OG 805 Premium Gold, OG 803 Mother-of-Pearl and OA 901 Essence have been updated! These labels are compliant in both the United States and Canada, eliminating OG 803C and OA 901C. You will soon start to see the exciting new labels (below) on all overglazes and overglaze accessories.  The outside of the label contains all necessary warnings, and peels back to reveal the inside of the label, which contains the product directions.

Product Reformulation

In addition to their new appearance, OG 801 Bright Gold, OG 802 White Gold, and OG 805 Premium Gold have been reformulated for improved performance! The product flows beautifully from the brush, and the fired color finish is better than ever! The improved consistency also allows you to get more use from the 2 gram bottle. The unfired color of the product has also changed slightly:

Unfired OG 801 Bright Gold is now brown
Unfired OG 802 White Gold remains green
OG 805 Premium Gold is now red

No formula changes have been made to OG 803 Mother-of-Pearl or OA 901 Essence.

New Pricing

Due to the fluctuation in the price of gold, we will now be pricing OG 801 Bright Gold, OG 802 White Gold, and OG 805 Premium Gold at market value. We will be publishing new pricing every six months, and will honor that pricing until the next announcement. At this time, the reformulated overglaze MSRP will be as follows:

OG 801 Bright Gold: $22.95
OG 802 White Gold: $22.95
OG 805 Premium Gold: $31.95

The MSRP on OG 803 and OA 901 will remain $6.00.

Existing product with the current formula and label will be offered at its current MSRP, while supplies last. New pricing will go into effect on each item as the new formulas and labels are in inventory.

Shipping Information

Product with the new labels and formulas will begin shipping soon. The shipping schedule will be as follows:

All of the new Spectrum Glazes, in both pints and gallons, as well as the actual color tile boards are being shipped to Dogwood as we speak.  High resolution photos will be added when the product series are added to the Spectrum Glaze Library.  All of the Electric Ash and Nature's Confetti Glazes are lead-free and non-toxic, however these glazes should not be considered food-safe due to the irregular surface of the glaze which may harbor bacteria.

Orton Announcement

Orton's Annual Price Adjustment is effective March 1, 2010. SRB and BRB Firing Cones will increase 10% in price while the SSB Self Supporting Witness Cones will increase approximately 5%.

Dogwood Ceramic Supply Comment:
20 years ago the wholesale cost of Firing Cones was substantially less than the wholesale cost of Witness Cones. But for the past 20+ years, the cost of Firing Cones have steadily increased at a rate greater than the price increases for SSB Self Supporting Witness Cones such that in 2009 the wholesale prices of the two different product groups exactly matched in price. For 2010 the wholesale cost of Firing Cones will far exceed the wholesale cost of Witness Cones.
The fundamental force driving Firing Cone prices over the past 20+ years has been the sharp decline in demand for the product as digital controlled kilns have consistently outsold the old-style mechanically operated (Kiln-Sitter) kilns.
Dogwood Ceramic Supply has been in the forefront of the movement to promote digitally controlled kilns. We stopped stocking kilns equipped with the Kiln-Sitter in 1996. We sold our last catalog standard kiln equipped with a Kiln Sitter (special order) to a new customer in 1999. Maybe, just maybe, Dogwood Ceramic Supply might have been the Big Dog driving the market as Paragon didn't make their announcement to cease designing kilns equipped with a Kiln Sitter until 2001.
Because there are still a few legacy kilns (pre-1999 units) sold by Dogwood Ceramic Supply on the market, Orton Firing Cones will continue to exist in Dogwood Ceramic Supply's inventory of showroom products for the foreseeable future. However, as the legacy kilns are replaced with a modern kiln, the breath and depth of our Orton Firing Cone inventory will be trimmed to meet real world demand for the product. Customers needing Firing Cones for unusual Cone values are strongly advised to evaluate their needs in advance. Dogwood Ceramic Supply places bulk orders with Orton every 60 days and we accept orders even for a single box of Firing Cones.

Hurricane Katrina

The spirit of Mississippi may have been stressed, but it was never broken:

While we remember the past through pictures and memorials, we must also move forward. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is rebuilding and hopefully even growing larger and stronger. New restaurants are opening almost daily, shopping malls are being planned and new apartment and home starts are leading the nation. On the clay side of the world Dogwood Ceramic Supply is expanding our products and services and there are a number of pottery and ceramic studios that are opening along the Gulf Coast. Maybe there really is a silver lining in every dark cloud.

Information about Hurricane Katrina including One School at a Time along with pictures taken by our webmaster and many of our ceramic and pottery friends can be found on Dogwood Ceramic Supply's Hurricane Katrina website page.
