Duncan Acrylic Stains
Duncan Acrylic Stains, properly known as Duncan Bisq-Stain Opaque Acrylics, and often referred as Duncan OS
Stains or just simply Duncan Stains, are water based acrylics stains that are available in a rainbow of colors. Duncan Acrylic Stains are opaque when used in conjunction with white
ceramic bisque and are suitable for a wide variety of decorative ceramic techniques. The entire series of 99 colors are nontoxic and
are packaged in 2 ounce squeeze bottles. White and black (Duncan OS 431 and OS 476) are also manufactured in 4 oz and pint bottles.
While Duncan's Acrylic Stains can be used as a general craft paint for school and scouting projects, the Duncan Acrylic
Stains were first and foremost designed for use with ceramic bisque. As with fabric paint that have textile media added to the formula to keep the painted surfaces flexible, Duncan's Acrylic Stains have
sealing agents added to the formula to prevent the color pigments from being excessively absorbed by the porous ceramic bisque. If Duncan's Acrylic Stains
are used with fabric then textile media will need to be added to the product to keep the fabric flexible after the project is completed.
Duncan's Acrylic Stains are not self-sealing and should be finished with either a brush-on
sealer or one of Duncan's Spray Sealers. If Duncan's Acrylic Stains are to be used in conjunction with self sealing
product, such as the Granite Stones or Metallic Acrylics, then the Acrylic portion of the project should be completed first, appropriately sealed and then
the self-sealing portions of the project should be completed.
