Duncan Cover-Coat Underglazes
(Opaque Underglazes)

    Duncan Cover-Coat Underglazes are traditional opaque underglazes designed for greenware application when opaque coverage is needed.  Duncan CoverCoats are perfect for large brush strokes or background fill.  The entire series of 76 colors are nontoxic.  Duncan Cover-Coats can be left unglazed for a soft muted appearance or covered with any translucent glaze to bring out the intense colors.  If used with a dinnerware safe glaze, the CoverCoats will be dinnerware safe.  Duncan CoverCoats may also be used on bisque, though a second firing to set and develop the colors may be required. 
    All Duncan Cover-Coats are available in 2 oz bottles, most colors are available in 16 oz bottles, and a select group of colors are available in 1 gallon bottles.  Dogwood Ceramic Supply stocks all available sizes and colors.

    Gallons of CC 101 White and 165 Black-Brown Cover-Coats are stocked for established customers, retail price $102.20.  The inventory level may vary and advance order may be required to insure order fulfillment for the casual customers.

Learning About Cover-Coat® Opaque Underglazes

Basic Instructions
1. Apply 3 coats to soft-fired bisque or bisque.
2. Glaze and refire, if desired.
3. Clean up with water.
4. Always refer to label instructions for proper application and usage.
5. Tint with E-Z Strokes^TM or other Cover-Coats.
6. Fire to shelf cone 04.
 

Tips & Techniques
1. Cover-Coats may be tinted using E-Z Strokes® or other Cover-Coats, to create unique custom colors.
2. To create carved designs, sgraffito (gently scratch through the applied color to reveal the color or the clay body beneath it).
3. Painting with Cover-Coats is similar to painting with acrylic paints and is a great fired alternative for a tole and decorative painter. Colors are opaque and generally one color covers the one beneath it. They must be fired to ensure maturation and stability. Clear glazes over all shows the truest colors.
