North Star Extruder Dies are made in America! About North Star Equipment Big Blue Extruder Dies All North Star Big Blue clay extruder dies are manufactured from 3/4" UHMW polyethylene, which is an extremely durable and wear-resistant material. Polyethylene is also completely non-contaminating and will not discolor even the most delicate porcelain.
The top edge of the clay extruder die cavity is beveled to compact the clay as it passes through the die, giving a crisp, solid extrusion. The beveled design also aids in removing hidden air pockets in the clay. On the hollow clay extruder dies, there is a bevel on both the interior and exterior sections of the die, under each side of the center brace (which holds the center of the hollow dies) that helps the extrusion to "heal" after being cut apart by the center brace.
The center brace seats into a slot machined into the top of the hollow die and is held firmly in place by the barrel of the extruder. When a hollow die is mounted in place, the center section of the die is positioned in exactly the right place to ensure uniform wall thickness around the extrusion.
