North Star's moderately priced, but industrial quality Shelf Truck is perfect for the pottery studio or classroom. While the original purpose of the North Star Shelf Truck was as a simple pottery cart or ware cart, the North Star Shelf Truck is even more popular as an equipment cart in industrial settings, such as print shops, machine shops, warehouses and factories. The North Star Shelf Truck is even found in hospitals and factory clean rooms because of the very high weight capacity and ease of maintaining the cleanliness of the unit. Bottom line, the attractive and durable North Star Shelf Trucks are a wonderful addition to any studio, shop or school.
The North Star Shelf Trucks measure 39" wide by 24" deep by 67" tall and are designed to support 24" x 36" shelves of any thickness.
North Star uses a much larger, wider, and stronger casters than any other shelf truck manufacturer. The large 6" diameter American-made industrial ball-bearing casters which are rated at 300 lbs each (1,200 pounds total for the shelf truck) allow the shelf truck to roll very easily, even over rough and uneven floors. All four casters swivel for easy maneuvering and two of the casters have foot-operated parking brakes for safety. Please note, while the total weight capacity of the casters may equal to 1200 lbs, the safe load rating (allowing for load variations plus normal engineering and safety allowances) of the North Star Shelf Truck is 750 pounds.
The North Star Shelf Truck is made entirely of heavy 14-gauge steel with North Star's extremely durable blue powder-coat finish. Each shelf truck comes with four pairs of shelf brackets, which will yield five shelf levels (the base holds the fifth shelf). North Star Shelf Truck standard shelves are simply 24" x 36" rectangles of 1/2" MDO plywood trimmed on the edge with blue T-molding (5 included in the Shelf Truck package). For applications that may require heavier shelves, or some other special configuration (such as two 12" x 36" shelves per level), customers will find it quite easy to make their own from materials readily available from their nearby lumber yard or home improvement center.
Shelves are supported at each end by sturdy brackets of a unique design that simply drop into the square holes spaced every 2 inches along the corner uprights. The spacing between shelves and the number of shelves is instantly adjustable without any tools. All shelves, except the bottom shelf which rides directly on the base, may be placed at any level so there is never any wasted space and conveniently slide in and out. For low height pieces such as tiles the truck can hold as many as 22 shelves.
The Shelf Trucks were designed to last a lifetime with very little care. Warranted for two years.

North Star VersaCab Mobile Damp Box & Drying Cabinet
The North Star VersaCab, based upon the classic North Star Shelf Truck, is a versatile drying and damp cabinet to solve most of your ceramics and pottery drying problems. The North Star Versa Cab (or Versatile Cabinet) eliminates the plastic bag mess usually associated with attempts to regulate the drying rate of ceramics and pottery because air-flow within the cabinet is easily regulated while the heavy-vinyl cover with molded nylon zippers eliminates undesirable cross ventilation issues. Heavy-duty industrial casters make the VersaCab easy to move even when fully loaded with up to 22 wire shelves and also feature two foot-operated parking brakes for safety.
The "vent shelf" in the North Star VersaCab is made in three sections which can be opened or closed individually to regulate air flow. The wire shelves allow free air circulation to the bottom and all around the ware. With the cover removed the VersaCab functions as a standard ware truck. Regardless of how the VersaCab is used, the high humidity within the chamber is not an issue as the VersaCab is attractively finished with North Star's extremely durable, rust-free, scratch-resistant, powder coated blue finish that can tolerate the high humidity exposure.
