About North Star Extruder Dies
North Star Clay Extruder Dies for North Star's Big Blue and Standard clay extruder
All North Star clay extruder dies are manufactured from ¾" UHMW polyethylene. UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) polyethylene is an extremely durable and wear-resistant material that is inert and will not contaminate or discolor the most porcelain clay.
The top edge of the North Star Extruder Die cavity is beveled to compact the clay as it passes through the die, giving a crisp, solid extrusion. The beveled design also aids in removing hidden air pockets in the clay as the clay is compressed when passing through the die.
On the hollow clay extruder dies, there is a bevel on both the interior and exterior sections of the die, under each side of the center
brace (which holds the center of the hollow dies) that helps the extrusion to "heal" after being cut apart by the center brace.
The center brace for the hollow dies is seated into a slot machined into the top of the hollow die and is held firmly in place by the barrel of the extruder. When a
hollow die is mounted in place, the center section of the die is positioned in exactly the right place to ensure uniform wall thickness around the extrusion.
North Star Extruder Dies are available in two sizes, the Standard Dies are for use with the Standard Extruder or may be used with the Big Blue Extruder when the Big Blue Extruder is combined with the #982 Die Adapter Plate. The larger Big Blue Dies are for use with the Big Blue Extruder or may be used with the Standard Extruder when the #940 Standard Extruder Expansion Box Kit is added to the Standard Extruder.
