Paragon UPS Zone Table

Paragon manufacturers a wide range of kilns. Some kilns have a firing chamber smaller than your clenched fist while others have a firing chamber larger than a full size refrigerator. Small package carriers, such as UPS, have regulations that limit the weight or dimensions of the shipping boxes that generally limit product shipping weights to 150 lbs or less. While none of Paragon's larger kilns could ever qualify for UPS shipping there are a number of Paragon kilns that DO qualify for UPS shipping. Generally speaking nearly every Paragon kiln with a shipping weight below 100 lbs will qualify for UPS shipping and about 50% of the kilns between 100 and 150 lbs, including the popular Fusion 7 and Xpress 1193, will qualify for UPS shipping.

Since many of these small kilns qualify for UPS shipping, and to reduce handling costs and provide these small kilns at the best possible price, Dogwood Ceramic Supply will typically ship the UPS qualified small kilns from the Paragon factory to the customer's location. This is a process called "drop shipping" and means the product is ordered from Dogwood and shipped by the manufacturer. For these small kilns this system is an excellent means of controlling prices and providing the fastest overall level of service.

Shipping via small package carriers is actually quite complex. The charges are based upon the distance traveled, the shipping weight, the density of the shipment (volume versus weight) as well as additional services required.

One of the criteria is the distance traveled. Paragon's factory is located in Mesquite, just outside of Dallas Texas. It stands to reason that customers located in Texas would pay less than a customer located in Oregon or Maine. The UPS Rate Zone system developed by Dogwood Ceramic Supply justly reflects the true costs of shipping across country. In the simplest terms, customers located closest to Dallas will pay the least in shipping costs.

There are additional factors that may adjust shipping costs. Residential deliveries and rural delivery locations are subject to standard UPS accessorial charges. A complete list of adjustments follows the UPS shipping zone table.

Alaska and Hawaii: Deliveries to any other point outside of the Continental USA must be hand computed.

Michigan UP: Michigan Upper Peninsula is charged a higher rate than the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.

Published UPS rates and surcharges are rounded up for ease of customer use and to cover insurance charges and the variable Fuel Surcharge which applies to both service costs and accessorial charges. The UPS $6.00 additional handling surcharge for boxes weighing over 70 lbs has been included in all published rates.

$1.50 per box surcharge for rural deliveries. Refer to http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/shipping/cost/zones/continental_us.html to determine if your zip is affected.

$5.00 per box surcharge for residential deliveries, capped to a maximum charge of $20.00 on UPS Hundredweight shipments.

Customers purchasing multiple items from Paragon may receive a better than published UPS rate, IF the total weight of the order exceeds 200 lbs. Multiple unit purchases will require hand computing.

For customers in close proximity to the Paragon factory, or for those customers desiring to make the trip to Mesquite Texas, Paragon kilns can be purchased with no UPS charge by picking up your desired equipment in person during Paragon's standard business hours.

The equipment must be ordered in advance from Dogwood Ceramic Supply and requested for factory pickup. The equipment will be boxed for standard UPS shipment to protect the items during transport. Please insure the dimensions of the shipping boxes will fit within your vehicle space. The customer is responsible for any tie downs, dunnage, and tarps needed to protect the equipment. The factory staff will not work overtime to meet the timetable of the customer. Any change order in the shipping status / pickup status of the kiln will result in additional charges.
