Stoneware Bisque

Welcome to the wonderful world of Stoneware.

    Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque is ideal for manufacturing your own baking dishes or dinnerware.  Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque has been manufactured in Seeley's Oneonta, New York facility to exacting standards using Seeley's own stoneware clays.  Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque has been fired to Cone 04 and is ready for decorating using any high fire Underglaze or Glaze.  Please refer to Dogwood Ceramic Supply's product index for additional information regarding Duncan's or Spectrum's High Fire Glazes and Underglazes.
    After decorating with your favorite Underglaze or Glaze, Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque should be fired to maturity.  Typically, Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque will be fired to Cone 4 to Cone 6 to achieve a dinnerware safe surface.  After being fired to maturity, Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque is fully functional and may be used in the oven, microwave and even washed in your dishwasher.
    Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque does not always have to be glazed to be functional.  Stoneware that has been properly fired to maturity (Cone 4 to Cone 6) is considered oven/microwave safe as the ware is vitreous and will not readily absorb water.  Eating and drinking surfaces do not have to be glazed to be considered dinnerware safe, however, the eating/drinking surfaces will be slightly rough and should be thoroughly cleaned with a mild detergent to prevent food from being trapped and harboring bacteria.  If left unglazed, some discoloration of the unglazed surface is possible over time. 
    
    Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque is available in two colors, Whitestone and Sahara.  Whitestone matches Seeley's Whitestone Stoneware clay in color, and is a near white color at maturity.  Sahara matches Seeley's Sahara Stoneware clay in color, and is a buff or light tan color at maturity.  When ordering Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque please add either an "W" or "S" as a suffix to the desired item number.

    The SF prefix to the item number indicates that the item is Seeley's Soft-Fired Stoneware Bisque.  Seeley's also produces standard earthenware bisque (EW) and Mature Stoneware Bisque (SB).
