Shimpo was founded in 1952 as a manufacturer of electric motors. As the simple potter's wheel is the ultimate application of that expertise, the first Shimpo electric potter's wheel introduced in 1955. Today, Shimpo is part of the Nidec group, a global company headquartered in Kyoto Japan, that specializes in manufacturing some of the finest electrical motors, drive units and instrumentation in the world. Based upon nearly a half century of manufacturing experience, Shimpo introduced the Shimpo Whisper Series of pottery wheels in 2003. Additional design and general feature information can be found at Shimpo Pottery Wheels. For the ceramic and pottery industry, Shimpo manufactures electric pottery wheels, pug mills and the world famous Shimpo Banding Wheel. Most of these products can be found on Dogwood Ceramic Supply's website, and the products that are showcased on the website are always in Dogwood's warehouse inventory.
