    Over a half century ago, Shimpo produced one of the world's first electric potter's wheels. Over the years Shimpo has produced exceptionally durable pottery wheels, many of which are currently still in use.
    Often copied but never match in quality or dependability, Shimpo Pottery Wheels are widely recognized worldwide as the finest pottery wheel on the market.
    The tradition of Shimpo continues today, with the introduction of the Shimpo Whisper Pottery Wheels in 2003. The Shimpo Whispers, designed in the traditional Japanese style boxed case as well as the Western style tripod legged model, represent the highest level of technology applied to the simple potter's wheel.

The Shimpo Whisper Pottery Wheels are “beyond perfect”. Both wheels share the same electronic controller to maintain speeds under all load conditions AND the direct-drive, brushless, 400 watt, ½ hp, 0-250 rpm DC motor with high torque that is conservatively rated for 100 lb centering capacity. The wheel head is easily reversible for both left and right handed potters, and are free spinning at 0 rpm for use as a banding wheel. Both wheels are maintenance-free and come standard with a splash pan and a two-year warranty.

The controller unit to the Whisper Series of Pottery Wheels is modular in design for ease of replacement and upgrading in future years.

The heart of any pottery wheel is the motor and bearing assembly. The Whisper Series of Pottery Wheels does not use the small electric motor with a noisy belt and pulley system found on other brands of wheels. Instead the Whispers use a series of highly reliable electromagnets in a cast iron frame mounted to the bearing system to drive the wheel head. As with the controller unit, the drive assembly is modular in construction and easily replaced by the user should the need arise.
