Spectrum RAKU Glazes
Spectrum RAKU Glazes are packaged in gallons and wide mouth pints for ease of brushing application. Spectrum Raku Glazes should never be considered for dinnerware usage as the Raku process does not meet dinnerware standards. While none of the Spectrum Raku Glazes contain lead, many of the glazes are considered toxic in the liquid form as they contain oxides of heavy metals such as copper.

General Raku & Safety Information:
Dogwood Ceramic Supply actively stocks the entire line of Spectrum Raku Glazes in pint sizes at our Gulfport Mississippi showroom and warehouse. Gallons are available with an advanced order. Volume discounts are available for purchases of pints or gallons of Spectrum Raku Glazes.
The Spectrum Raku Glazes are premixed (liquid glaze) designed specifically for brush application. All of Spectrum's Raku Glazes are lead free, though some of the glazes contain high concentrations of metallic oxides which may be hazardous if ingested or inhaled. Regardless of the product's toxicity or lack there of in the liquid form, Spectrum Raku Glazes should never be used for dinnerware, objects that may be considered for dinnerware use or for use in aquariums.
While specifically designed for the Raku process, Spectrum Raku Glazes may be fired in oxidation (electric kiln) to Cone 06 or hotter. The results obtained in conventional oxidation firing methods may be different than demonstrated by the digital color chips shown above. Limited success can be had with the Spectrum Raku Glazes when fired to Cone 6.
The traditional Raku process if fraught with safety and liability issues and as such Raku is STRONGLY not advised for schools, the elderly or those with respiratory problems which could be aggravated by exposure to smoke produced during the Raku process. NEVER perform the Raku process indoors or in confined or partially confined spaces. ALWAYS maintain proper fire safety equipment within easy reach during the Raku process.
Spectrum's Raku Glazes contain high concentrations of metallic oxides which are necessary to produce the vibrant range of colorful glazes. However, metallic oxides may pose significant safety risks to children, women who are pregnant and those who may become pregnant as well as the elderly. The risk of exposure to the metallic oxides is increased when handling dry glazes due to inhalation risks.
