S101 Buff Clay

S101 Buff Clay (Cone 02-9)
    Standard Clay's S-101 Buff Clay is an all-purpose lightly textured stoneware with an extremely wide-firing range and no grog for throwing and modeling.  Standard S-101 Buff Clay is very light buff color at low temperatures, becoming a warm light buff color at Cone 6, as shown on the left.  The color approaches a soft gray at Cone 9, shown in the middle.  In reduction at Cone 9, shown on the right, the clay is a warm medium brown with a soft speckling of lighter colors.  Standard S-101 Buff Clay is considered the universal clay due to the broad firing range and light color that is suitable for many different glazes.
