S181 White Stoneware
Clay (Cone 6-10)
Standard Clay's S-181 White Stoneware Clay is a very smooth white stoneware body without fire clay
to add texture or tooth to the clay.
Standard S-181 White Stoneware Clay contains molochite, an extremely fine (200-mesh) porcelain grog to enhance the throwing capabilities of this clay. In oxidation the color is a warm, nearly perfect white at Cone 6, shown on the left, and a very soft cool gray at Cone 10, as shown in the middle. In reduction the clay is a warm light gray at Cone 10, as shown on the right.
Standard's S-181 White Stoneware Clay is popular with potters and artists that
require a smooth surface for carving or decorating with underglazes.
Standard's S-240 White Stoneware is a better
throwing clay than S-181 as the S-240 contains fire clay to add the texture or
tooth to a clay that is often desirable in a throwing clay body.
