Minnesota Markers are similar to the classic felt-tip ink marker, except the Minnesota Marker is loaded with underglaze for firing up to Cone 10. Best application when used on bisque, Minnesota Markers must be fired to at least Cone 06 prior to glaze application and firing. Color development only occurs when covered with a clear glaze, with the best color development at Cone 6. If being glaze fired to Cone 06, the Markers should only be used on white backgrounds. Minnesota Markers are perfect for signatures on commemorative items, such as wedding or teacher gifts.
Minnesota Choxils are slim, pencil diameter sticks of underglaze which are available in a choice of 10 colors. Similar to school chalk, the entire stick is the underglaze color, and may be sharpened to a fine point or used in broad strokes. Best used on bisque, Choxils are ideal for fine details, signatures and outlines that could not be easily accomplished with a brush. Like chalk, Choxils are easily smeared until the color has been bisque or glaze fired. Choxils may be fired prior to glaze application to set the color and prevent smearing, or the glaze may be carefully applied and fired. Like the Markers, the Choxils are best used on white or light colored backgrounds, and better color development is achieved at higher temperatures. Due to the ease of smearing, Choxils are not recommended for use by multiple users for signatures on commemorative items.
